Date: 10 July 2026, 10:00- 12:00

Location: Online

Price: Free

Application deadline: 22 June 2026

As part of their Step Up strand, we’re offering training to help individuals coming back into the industry after a break, moving into a new role, or improving their skills in unscripted TV.

Looking to strengthen your post production knowledge and take greater control of your projects? This interactive training is designed for unscripted TV freelancers across editorial roles who want to improve their knowledge of post-production workflows and processes and the impact of AI on the post production process.

Delivered by industry experts, the sessions offer a practical, real-world overview of the post production process across unscripted genres. You’ll explore key areas including timelines, workflows, communication with post houses, and strategies to avoid overspending while delivering great quality programmes/series. The training also introduces emerging technologies, including AI, and how they are shaping post production today, with the opportunity to ask questions throughout.

Who it's for

This session is aimed at production assistants, production secretaries, production management assistants, production coordinators, junior production managers and production managers  working in Unscripted TV who would like a better understanding of the post production process and how to keep on track with their schedules and stay within budget.

We generally require applicants to have at least 3 credits (unless working in a traditionally uncredited role). If you strongly feel you would still benefit from the training, please email USF@screenskills.com

We are committed to ensuring all our courses are accessible to everyone. Please email the above address with any access requirements so that we can make the arrangements you need.

What it covers

The course will provide an overview of the following:

  • The timeline for post production

  • Post production workflows

  • The importance of communication with the editorial/production teams and the post production house

  • Embracing new technology and the use of AI

  • Considerations around final post production

  • Managing overspends in post production and money saving tips

Trainers

Facilitated by Media Career Advice, industry experts Paul Hawke-Williams and Viki Carter will run the training session.

Paul Hawke-Williams is Head of training and Engagement for Gorilla Academy.  He’s worked in the industry for over 25 years in both production and education and has used that knowledge to build and deliver relevant, hands on courses for the freelance and employed delegates across the UK.

Viki Carter is an experienced Head of Production in unscripted content including TV, radio, podcasts and branded content.  She has worked for small start-up indies as well as super indies across multiple genres ranging from factual entertainment formats to shiny floor shows to obs docs to history docs and much more.  She currently works as a production consultant offering ad hoc production support to indies including writing budgets and schedules and helping set up new companies alongside her work as a trainer in all aspects of managing productions, people, workloads and negotiation.

How to apply

This session will take place online via Zoom. Click ‘apply for ticket’ and follow the instructions to apply for your place: you must login or register before you are able to complete your application.

Places on these free online courses are limited and applications are often highly competitive. To stand the best chance of securing a place, please be sure to consider the following:

  • When asked to list your three most recent credits, please include the programme title and your job role.

  • When asked what you hope to gain from the course, please be concise but ensure you cover the specific elements of the topic you would like to gain knowledge of and what gaps in your skillset you believe the course may address. A rewording of the course title or a general comment on career progression does not tell us much about how this course would benefit you.

If you are no longer able to attend, we ask you to please use the “decline ticket” function on the right hand side of the page so that we can release your place. Our sessions are often oversubscribed, so we’d like to give other freelancers the opportunity to fill available spots. Thank you for your consideration.

This session is supported by the ScreenSkills Unscripted TV Skills Fund which invests in training for the unscripted workforce thanks to contributions from broadcasters, SVoDs and production companies.

This course would normally cost participants to attend, but thanks to this support, we are able to offer it to you for free. If you fail to attend, we reserve the right to request reimbursement of costs, unless your place can be taken by someone else.
